So it would appear that the DVLA (Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency) are finally updating their IT systems to bring them into the modern era.. Online, we can now apply for tax discs, Make a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) and view MOT status.
The latest change Relates to the UK driving license…from 8th June 2015, the paper counterpart to the photo id card will be scrapped and invalid. The paper counterpart has been used for recording penalty points, confirming driving licence to employers or hiring a car. It’s being replaced with a new online system that will allow drivers, law enforcement agencies to view your record. It will also allow for the creation of a one time licence check code that can be shared with car hire companies etc.
