UK Finally Embraces 4G

BBC News – Ofcom raises £2.34bn in 4G auction, less than forecast.

Finally today, the long anticipated sale of the 800MHz and 2.6GHz, equivalent to two-thirds of the radio frequencies currently used by wireless devices, such as tablet computers, smartphones and laptops has taken place in the UK.

Whilst it did not rasie the amount of money the UK government had expected, it does now allow competition amongst airtime providers, which is fantastic news for UK businesses and the public who can now expect a rapid deployment of services and new caperbilities on their mobile devices ove rthe next 12 months.

As high quality / high capacity mobile bandwidth becomes essential to business, as well as the general public, lets hope that we don’t see significant cost increases – already some operators are throwing down the gauntley by stating no cost increases.
